Triple Your Travel
Are you ready to discover who you really are?

Why do we travel?

To discover the world?

Or discover ourselves?

When I started this blog a few years back, there was a message I wanted to share. I had spent nearly four years huddled inside a cubicle, barely out of my teens, supposedly on the fast track to living the corporate dream. Everybody told me my company was important. My job was important. I was doing important work. I was helping important people.

But none of it felt very important to me.

When I finally gathered the courage to hand in my resignation, I made a decision to see the world. What was I going to find out there? I had no idea. But I didn’t care. In fact, that was probably the reason I was so eager to go.

Nordvågen, Norway

Six years on, six different continents, 40 different countries, hundreds of different cities, meals, romances, experiences and friendships, and I finally started to understand what was important. It had nothing to do with what you did for a living, or your bank account, or even the different places we travel to. It was discovering who you really are, so you could allow yourself to live the life you truly want to live.

I started this blog because I believed travel was bigger than just travel. By encouraging people to see the world, I hoped they would also discover themselves, find out who they really are, and build themselves a life of purpose.

Kilimanjaro, Tanzania

However, travel is a difficult thing to do. Where do you go? Where do you stay? Who do you go with? What do you pack? Is it safe? And that’s just the beginning.

When I first started travelling backing in 2011, I didn’t know what to expect. I started on the east coast of Africa, then South America, then China, Japan, Southeast Asia, New York City, Europe…on it went. And I learned that when we’re kind to the world, the world is kind to us. We make new friends, we’re welcomed into new cities, we learn to keep ourselves safe, we go where our hearts tell us. Many things simply fall into place once we get on the plane.

But one obstacle was always there.

How do we pay for it?

Sahara Desert, Morocco

This was a question I was also forced to deal with. After my first year on the road, I knew I wanted to keep travelling. There was so much more to see, so much more to learn, about the world and myself. I had savings, and credit cards, but I knew that wouldn’t last forever. I was determined to find out how I could keep going, without working another desk job and without spending a fortune.

I soon learned travel didn’t need to be expensive. On the road there existed an entire sub culture; the nomadic, people who had been on the road for four, five, even twenty years, some spending as little as $10 a day. At the time it seemed like madness. How was it possible these people were discovering every corner of the world on so little money?

Over the years that followed I dove neck deep into this culture, in what turned out to be the adventure of a lifetime. I travelled to every continent in the world, on less than a shoestring, learning from my travel buddies, my local hosts, my peers and other professional travellers. I became obsessed with the lifestyle, the culture and the community. Over half a decade on the road, I became an expert in the art of budget travel.

Today, I truly believe money is not an obstacle to seeing the world. In fact, I believe travel is more affordable and accessible than it has ever been, and if you know where to look, you can travel on any budget, at any time, to anywhere in the world.

The guide you are about to be introduced to is titled Triple Your Travel. It is for those who dream to see the world, without the high price tags. It has been compiled from my own personal experiences, from all corners of the world, and I have been absolutely pedantic in ensuring every aspect of budget travel is covered. Whether it be finding a cheap place to sleep in Paris, finding affordable food in Switzerland, or figuring out the cheapest way to overland Africa, I’ll show you how. It contains only the most practical and up-to-date information, in a collection of beautifully designed resources, and is updated annually.
My goal was to simplify travel, to make it affordable for regular people like you and me, to show aspiring travellers that it is possible and we can do it. With Triple Your Travel, I truly believe we’ve done that. Simply put, there is no other guide like it. It is THE guide to budget travel – the most current and comprehensive available today. I guarantee it.

"hooked from the first chapter"

Being an avid reader of Brendan's blog, I expected this guide to be a compilation of the tips and advice I had read from him before. I was ecstatic to see that most of the content was not only fresh, but so cleverly and concisely organized. I was completely hooked from the first chapter... Brendan spoke as if he were a best friend, grabbing my shoulders while looking into my eyes convincing me that "you CAN do this!" It was exactly what I needed to take the leap and book that flight. Particularly useful were the sections regarding visas, banking/money exchanging and hammering into my head the mindset of a frugal and smart traveller- that I can travel for much longer by choosing the right destinations and using his tips for living like a local. I can't thank him enough for all his work and the experience he has passed on.

"If this isn't the most helpful, practical and valuable travel guide you've ever read, I'll refund every cent, no questions asked."

"Eye opening. Worth every penny."

Triple Your Travel was really eye-opening and worth every penny. It encompasses every aspect of travel planning, and details a lot of things that most travel blogs gloss over. The chapter on finding cheap flights had a lot of cool tips and hacks that I've never seen before and the section on the different travel seasons was so helpful. Personally I liked the sample itinerary on Thailand the most - it's the most concrete "how to" section and showed the cost of everything which was really useful. It's the perfect guide to go back and forth to when you're dead set on making your adventure happen.

"One of a kind"

Vicky M Somerset, UK

There may only be a few people who have the experience Brendan does - but the ability to write it so well and so clearly, in such an easy-to-read manner makes this one-of-a-kind and there probably isn't anything else quite like it out there. I think it will particularly appeal to the younger, hi-tech-savvy generation who go on longer travels, but it contains invaluable advice and information for all ages and all kinds of travellers. I really liked the advice about travelling off-season, information on finding your own apartment, and how to find the travel style that suits you - such wise advice and very helpful. When I travel they're usually month-long independent trips (book an apartment, and take my computer to write and hang out in coffee shops) and I will be surely referring to this guide again each time I travel. I really think it could become one of the must-have travel books out there!"
